Summer Heat Tech Tips

ASCN, ASF & ASK

We all know how blistering hot it can get in Louisiana during the summer time, and getting into a hot car is never any fun. You burn your legs on your hot leather seats, you feel like you need to wear oven mitts to touch your steering wheel and your dripping sweat before you even start your car! Summer can be tough on cars, especially during high temperatures when heat can destroy batteries and stress the cooling system and tires. As a precaution, these vehicle components should be checked periodically during summer to help avoid breakdowns and car problems. All Star Kia of Baton Rouge is here to help! We have some awesome summer tech tips to make sure your car is in perfect condition for the hot Louisiana weather.

Nothing is worse than having your air conditioning system brake during the summer! To ensure that your system won’t brake on you, you should always run your system for a few minutes at least once a week. This helps the many hoses, valves and pumps throughout the system to be kept well lubricated. If you’re going to get your car serviced, ask the technician to check your system. It’s always good to get your air conditioning system checked at least once a year. Depending on your vehicle the mechanic will check the air vent temperature, replace the filter, inspect the hoses, and more to make certain your air conditioning system is in great condition.

Tires need extra attention in warmer weather because higher temperatures put added stress on them. To maximize tire life and safety, check the tire condition and inflation pressure regularly. It is also good to have the tires rotated every 5,000 – 6,000 miles or every other oil change. Summer heat will cause the pressure within a tire to rise, therefore, it’s important to check the pressure when tires are cold. Your vehicle’s owner manual includes the recommended air pressure for your vehicle’s tires.

To help keep your vehicle cooled when parked, sunshades, that look like aluminum foil stretched across the inside of a windshield, are a great way to keep your seats from the sun’s heat. There is also ones desigined for the back seat windows as well! This helps to keeps the seats cooled for your kids. If you do not have a sunshade, it be a great investment and they are fairly cheap! Otherwise, you should try to pack away from the sun. Parking in the shade or in a garage is also highly effective and recommended whenever possible!
