All Star Kia of Baton Rouge’s Winter Vehicle Tips

1

The cooler temperatures are just around the corner. For us, that means we need to practice safe driving during these cooler months, and equally as important, our vehicle maintenance. Is your car winter ready? Well if you are unsure, here are a few tips from the All Star Family to keep your car in optimum condition this winter season.

Being able to see in conditions when there may be a little ice on the road is imperative. When was the last time your windshield wiper blades were replaced? Wiper blades are usually good for six months to one year, so be sure to change your blades if you are due.  Also, fill up your windshield reservoir with windshield fluid, because plain water would not do this time of year, as it freezes.

Our vehicle’s belts and hoses need to be checked for wear and tear from the harsh months. It is imperative to have your belts and hoses routinely checked to ensure your vehicle is running properly.

Putting these tips into practice will save you a lot of headache this season. Your vehicle needs a little more TLC during the colder months than summer. Come in and have your vehicle inspected by one of our certified technicians! Don’t dread winter this holiday season! Schedule your service appointment with us today!

Have a Game Plan For Fall Service

With fall quickly approaching, it is important to have your vehicle ready for the chilly temperatures ahead. Although it does not snow or get too terribly cold here in South Louisiana, you still need to have your car service and ready for the fall weather that will soon be upon us! All Star Kia of Baton Rouge has compiled a few tips and recommendations in order to get your vehicle in tip-top shape before the season changes!

  • Check you Battery

If your battery has removable caps, make sure that all cells are filled with distilled water. Keep all battery terminals and cable ends clean. When jump-starting, never connect the jumper cables’ ground clamp to the dead battery’s negative post. Instead, use an engine-mounted bracket as the grounding location. In colder weather, this can keep a frozen battery from exploding.

  • Body

Waxing, particularly with a carnauba-based product, will help the paint withstand road salt and other foul-weather grime. Lubricate door hinges with silicone spray so they won’t squeak when the weather changes. Spraying the locks and weatherstripping will help keep doors and trunks from freezing shut!

  • Tires

Air condenses in cooler weather, and we’re all well-educated now on the hazards of under inflated tires. Keep tires inflated to the manufacturer’s recommendation on the sticker found in the glove box or on the doorjamb. Check the condition/inflation of your spare tire for safety!

These are just a few things All Star Kia of Baton Rouge suggests you check before the fall season rolls around! Taking care of your vehicle and routinely getting it serviced will ensure your vehicle will last a lot longer! Make sure to schedule your service appointment, and view all of our Service Specials!

National Car Care Month

2016-04-11 National Car Care Month

April is National Care Car Month! “Why April?” you may ask yourself. In April, as winter comes to an end, it is time to get your Kia ready for spring driving and summer road trips! National Car Care Month reminds you to take care of any issues that may have occurred or been ignored during winter. Spring time is filled with sunshine, some afternoon showers and lots of pollen. Make sure your Kia’s tires are rotated, balanced and in good condition for those wet roads. Deep potholes aren’t friendly to shocks and struts. An inspection to determine wear or leaks can alleviate bigger issues down the road. Also having your wheels properly aligned after a season of tough conditions can help keep you on the road in a safe direction. Also make sure your windshield wiper blades are being replaced every 6-12 months to avoid streaking on your windshield.

With all of that pollen in the air, your Kia’s air filter can get clogged up pretty quickly. Make sure you are routinely checking and changing it to ensure optimal air flow is being produced. When it comes to your Kia’s safety, the brake system is at the top of the list. Making sure your brakes are working properly before you head out on those slick roads or long summer road trips will ensure for a safe and comfortable ride! Brakes are a normal wear item for any car and eventually they’re going to need to be replaced. For routine maintenance, check your vehicle’s braking system at least once a year. A thorough inspection should include brake lining wear, brake fluid level, rotor thickness, condition of hoses and brake lines, brake and dash warning lights, as well as taking the car for a test drive to detect other potential brake system problems.
